Everyday Minerals Review and Giveaway

I have always enjoyed wearing makeup and looking pretty. In my Pre-Mom days, I wouldn't be caught dead (or alive) without my makeup. # children later, makeup is no longer a priority. However, makeup has come a long way in 10 years. It is much easier to apply, last longer and looks much more natural than it ever did before. I told myself that if I could find makeup that was natural mineral makeup and was easy to apply, I would wear it more often...

Well I have found just that with Everyday Minerals. I received 5 great items: Everyday Minerals Cheek in Truly Tiger and Come What May, Everyday Eye in Seahorse and Hipster Hippo and Icing on the Cake Lipstick. These products were very easy to apply, didn't flake and blended beautifully. Also, the lipstick was very natural. Not too bold and had just enough color. It was very smooth, never sticky, and stayed on for quite some time

With all the make up companies that I have dealt with, one thing sets Everyday Minerals apart from competition...The commitment to give back: (From the Website) Guided by the continued spirit of giving upon which EVERYDAY MINERALS was founded, Carina has created Everyday Forward, a new initiative that helps our customers give back to international and national charities. Every month, we pick one of several charities—including Womenforwomen.org, Care.org, Kiva.org, and Globalliving.org. During a designated time period, all sales of a particular product go to that selected charity.
We know that women's issues are the moral battle of this century, and Everyday Forward affords our extensive female user base an opportunity to help support women’s dreams all over the world.
This is our way of standing up for women around the world everyday.

Not convienced yet? How about this...Everytime you order from Everyday Minerals, you can add a color collection in the "Try it Free" section to your cart FREE! You can also purchase these for only $5 if you don't have an additional order. What a great way to try something with very little risk. Well if that wasn't good enough, you also can jump on the Beauty Perks. If you purchase 5-11 items, you will receive 25% off. If you purchase 12 or more items, you will receive 45% off. WOW thats a DEAL!

Bet you want some, huh?

Head on over to Everyday Minerals and purchase all of your favorite products.

Bet you would rather win it, huh?

Better Baby Bums Review and Giveaway

Over this past year, I have made it a quest to convert my family to as green living as I possibly can. I have made several transitions. From Eco Star appliances to organic milk, I have tried very hard to make as many changes as I can. There are several companies that claim to be "green" are not green at all. During my quest to go green, I stumbled upon Better Baby Bums. I was very excited when Jennifer offered to allow me the chance to review some of the companies products.

I am a cloth diapering mama 90% of the time. I use disposables at bedtime sometimes (if I haven't washed the AIO dipes) or if we are going on a lengthy car trip. But any other time, it cloth dipes in this house. So when I came across Better Baby Bums Broody Chick Diapers, I was intrigued. These diapers are 100% natural and compostable. The first fully compostable disposable diaper on the market! Chlorine-free, plastic-free, and plant-based absorbent gel. Packaged in a 100% recycled cardboard with plant-based dyes. How wonderful is that. Granted, they are not reusable, but you can't get any better diaper if you have to use a disposable one. And let me tell you...I put them to the test. I left them on Emma awhile longer than I usually would have. I was checking to see if they would leak...NOPE and if they would irritate her...NOPE. They are nothing fancy...Just plain white, but they are awesome dipes and they are great for the environment! Doesn't get better than this! But FYI, they do have cloth dipes too!

Another wonderful product that I was able to review was Sniffs and Snuffles. Ever used a menthol-based product for congestion? Well you will never use that again once you use Sniffs and Snuffles. It is a menthol-based natural congestion relief product. It is safe for the whole family and is made with a natural blend of vegetable oils and waxes. It is not harmful to use on little ones and is not nearly as strong as the leading store bought competitor. My littlest one had a stuffy nose and we used this at night and she didn't wake up congested! I will never use anything else again.

The final product that I reviewed is a definite favorite. The Watergeeks water bottle has to be the best water bottle that I have ever used. First, it is stainless steel, not plastic. One less chemically created product to worry about. Also, stainless steel stays colder longer. I need my drink to stay cold for a couple hours between refills and this does that plus more. But the best feature is that the spout lid contains a filter to filter any chemicals out of your water before you drink it. How great is that. You never know when you are going to have to drink tap water. I don't know about you, but my tap water doesn't taste very good. When you drink from this bottle, you can taste a difference. Not to say all tap water is bad, but why take the chance. It is just an extra step to keeping harmful chemicals away from yourself and your family.

Bet you want some, huh?

You can head on over to Better Baby Bums and look through their wide selection of baby needs.

Bet you would rather win some, huh?

Jennifer has offered 1 of my readers the chance to win 2 packs of Broody Chick diapers, 2 packs of wipes and a Sniffs and Snuffles.

Please Pardon the Dust!

Over the next day or so, we will be working on changing over to our new layout! Yippee!  Finally!!!  So please be patient while some things disappear and then reappear and get shuffled around - we promise the end result will be well worth the trouble!

The Love Challenge Week 2

As I have posted for the past couple weeks, I am participating in the Love Challenge at Sweet as Punkin Pie. We just finished up week number 2. I challenge last week was: Every day this week (or as many days as you can), contact your spouse while they are at work (or home, or wherever) just to see how their day is going and ask if there is anything you can do for them (pick up dry cleaning, iron clothes, shovel the snow). Mix it up by doing a variety of phone calls, texts, or emails.
So, how did I do...Not as good as I wanted to for many reasons. The #1 reason is that our life takes on 2 different paths most days. I work a pretty full schedule day and dont get home until 7 sometimes where my husband works night shift and is gone by 5 pm. When I have time to call him, he is sleeping. But I did manage to call 5/7 days. I did email him once and left him a message on Facebook once. So I guess I did more that usual but really wanted to do better than that. I will continue to work on that each day.
Week 3 Challenge
Come up with a creative way to say a few words from the heart. It doesn't have to be long or dramatic, but do it in a different way. Write a ransom-style note using cut up magazines, write it in the sand, wrap it in a box, deliver it to his work, or just leave it for him next to his morning cup of coffee. If you get real ambitious, do this a few times this week, with each note being different and more creative!
I already have several ideas for this challenge. Now the hardest part will be making the time to follow through with the ideas. Wish me luck!!

Mineral Basic Review and Giveaway

As I have stated in several previous posts, I love makeup. Every aspect of it. I like the natural looks, the bold looks and everything in between. In my years prior to having children, I spent more than an hour in the morning getting that perfected look and a bit more time throughout the day reapplying it.

Due to children, a job and life in general, that amount of time is no longer available. I have found myself not even applying my make up some days just because I didn't have any extra time. Just recently I decided that enough was enough and I begun my quest for good looking, easy to apply, long lasting makeup...that is natural. Boy that was harder than I thought.

If it is long lasting, it usually has chemicals. If its chemical free, it doesn't stay on very long. This was very frustrating...until I found Mineral Basics. At first, I didn't think this makeup would be any better than any others that I've tried but figured I'd give it a shot. I was pleasantly surprised.

Chandi, the owner of Mineral Basics, sent me over 15 (yes, 15) samples of anything that I wanted to try. I picked a few and asked her to choose the rest. She did a great job of picking even though all I told her was that I don't wear real bold looks. Not that I don't like them. I just can't where I work. So this is what she sent me: Lt-Med Foundation, Lt-Med Concealer, Sunkiss Bronzer, Silken Matte Finishing Powder, Finishing Silk Finishing Powder, Baby Pink Blush and the Multi Use Powders in the following colors: Raisin, Storm, Egypt, Eggplant, Dark Chocolate, Wind&Sea, Forest and Black. These Multi Use Powders are in either Matte, Satin or Shimmering.

I wasn't sure where to start on the day I received the mineral makeup. So, after reading the pamphlet that was included, I locked myself in the bathroom and went to town. I used the concealer under my eyes first. Then applied it on a few of my freckles on my face. Over this, I applied the foundation. Just to note, it took VERY little of either to complete the face. I then applied the blush. I applied the Bronzer on my forehead, nose and chin. I used the Black Matte on my upper and lower eyelash line as an eyeliner. I applied Wind&Sea(deep shimmering silver) over my entire eyelid. Then applied Forest in my crease only. To finish the look, I applied the finishing powder over my entire face. Again, I want to note, I used very little of this makeup at any time to achieve the look I wanted.

The pictures really don't do this justice. I have hundreds of freckles on my face. You can only see some of the larger, darker ones because of the concealer. The colors were sophisticated and classy. The makeup was easy to apply, mineral based that is Bismuth-Free. And the fact that the owner is a user of her own product says a lot. I have not used all the colors yet but I love the ones I have used and will be a returning customer with Mineral Basics.

Bet you want some, huh?
Head on over to Mineral Basics and purchase all your favorite colors.

Aloha Friday

Its Aloha Friday! Friday is a calm, relaxing day of rest in Hawaii. So, Friday is an easy going day on the blog too! I ask you a simple question, you respond with a simple answer. Then, if you choose, you can link up to Island Life and post your own question. Make sure to visit other sites! Its a great way too meet new bloggers!

Question: How do you manage your blog posts, family, work, ect. Do you use a planner (or 2). Do you schedule all of your day, start to finish?

Answer: It is becoming a challenge for me everyday. I have not yet reached a comfort level in managing my blog, job and family. I am using the BusyBodyBook, and this helps but I still feel as if I go to bed leaving lots undone. My goal this week is to find and begin to use more organizational tools to help me best use my time. Any advise?

Bebe Dulce Review and Giveaway

About a month ago, I came across this wonderful baby site, Bebe Dulce. There were so many different items for mom and baby alike. The items were all handmade and as cute as could be.

I was so excited when Claire offered me the opportunity to review for her store. I told Claire that my daughter, Emma, was super girly so whatever she chose would be fine. When the package arrived, I was elated.

Inside that box was a pink princess tutu. It was so precious. Claire had wrapped the tutu in beautiful paper for shipping so this would make a nice gift just to ship to someone. This tutu is better than any other tutu I have seen in person before. It had several layers that made the tutu frilly and poofy, just like a princess. The waistband was lined with pink satin, which hid all the elastic and eliminated the contact of the elastic with Emma's skin. This I have found is a big problem with most tutus.

Emma fell in love before she really knew what it even was. She rubbed it saying peety (pretty) over and over. After we put the tutu on, Emma insisted that I put makeup on her and put a bow in her hair. FYI, I just used a little bit and its the kids makeup.
Then she said "cheese' which means take my picture.

Can you tell that she loves to have her picture taken? As you can see from the pictures, the tutu was perfectly handcrafted and it beautiful quality.

But tutus isn't the only thing at Baby Dulce. Oh No! She offers precious Applique Onesies
These are appliqued by hand, come in a variety of fabrics and available in short or long sleeve. There are also matching shoes and beanie caps for the perfect outfit. Hands down, Bebe Dulce is great website to check out for all baby needs.

Bet you want one, huh?
You can head over to Bebe Dulce and purchase your own tutu and onesie.
Use code winter20 for 20% off your order.
Bet you would rather win one, huh?
Because Claire is awesome, she is offering one of my lucky readers a $20 Gift Certificate to use in her store!

The Love Challenge Week 1

As I posted a couple of weeks ago, I am participating in the 20 week love Challenge over at Sweet as Punkin Pie. I was really excited about this because a lot of times, life gets in the way of your relationship. Right now, we need a recharge.

Ok, so last week, we received our first challenge. "Surprise him with an unexpected gift. Make it personal rather than trendy, small rather than large, silly rather than serious. Something only he can appreciate. Show your thoughtfulness in a way that lets him know how important he is to you."

So for Vday, I arranged a babysitter and planned the evening and he knew nothing about it. Then the challenge part came in. I re-gifted a card that he gave me years ago. As an inside joke, he calls me his fav buttcheck...The card fell along those lines. I cut the front off and redid the card. I wrote inside that he was still me fav buttcheck...Again this was an inside joke so no one really understands this but us but that was the challenge. He got a big kick out of this...

Mommy Pads & More Review and Giveaway

Just by luck, I ran across this fabulous store, Mommy Pads & More. This store offers Mommy Pads, Return address stamps, mommy necklaces and so much more. These products would make great gifts for teachers, your fellow mommy friends, weddings...anything you can imagine.

I received a Return Address Stamp seen above (that is not my name on the stamp :) and a Mommy Pad.

This pad is the talk of the school. After sending just one note to school, the teachers made an announcement at the PTA meeting about how neat these were and could help teachers with organization. I was very proud! But that is not the only choice in pads. There is a babysitter pad, thank you list pad, wedding invites list, pet list... and that just names a few.

The stamp is so versatile. It could be used as letterhead, return address on mail, on a blank card and made to be a biz card, to stamp on items in case they get lost...The possibilities are endless.

Susie took very little time in preparing the proof of my products for me. Within 7 days I had my stamp and pad and they were perfect! When I received my pad. It was wrapped in a pretty ribbon so this could be sent as a gift without having to worry about wrapping.

My favorite item in Susie's store is the mommy necklaces. These are swank necklaces and you can add initials or names of you children. Or you can design it just for yourself. Again, endless options. Susie is very versatile and her customer services skills are impeccable.

Bet you want one huh?

Head over to Mommy Pads & More and buy your very own Mommy Pad or Stamp. Use the code MOMMY for a 15% discount.

Bet you would rather win one, huh?

Susie is awesome so she offered one of my readers either a Pad or Stamp of your choice!!

Nifty Nappy Review and Giveaway

My youngest child is 18 months old and this is the first child that I have cloth diapered. There were so many reasons why I chose not to cloth diaper my first 3 children. The main concern is the hassle and headache that goes into finding a good diaper and cover. I didn't want to deal with wet sheets everyday, massive amounts of laundry and stinky diapers, even if they are clean. Boy, I have learned a lot in the past 18 months.

I started researching cloth diapers about 2 years ago and I found several that looked good but I was scared to make the investment and not be happy with the results. Oh, how right I was. I bought 3 different kinds of cloth diaper and only one didn't leak overnight, even with a cover. Where has Vilate and Nifty Nappy been all my life?

Vilate, the owner of Nifty Nappy, began making her cloth diapers with her first child but they were the bulky flannel with a sewn in soaker (not very attractive I would guess). With her second child, the diaper cause a rash and Vilate was forced to revert back to disposables. Disposables continued with the 3rd child. Luckly, Vilate met a woman who inspired her to make a different diaper with snaps that were stuffed with microfiber. Due to leaking issues, she discovered wool and VOILA! Organic hemp and bamboo are now used in the diapers which are absorbent and antibacterial.

HOW FABULOUS! I am in love with these diapers. I was sent a Nifty Nappy One Size Diaper and a Custom Nifty Knickers cover. But, I hit a speed bump at first. I only washed the diaper 2 times when I received it. I should have washed it 5 times. So, the first night was a soaker. After following the directions (haha) we used the diaper 5 nights in a row...don't worry I washed it in between. Every night after was a success. My Emma sleeps from 9pm til 7 am and usually drinks a cup at least once in the night(yeah I know...not a good idea). I didn't change her all night and no leaks. I am sold. And they are cute cute cute...She was already sleeping when I took these. She is a good sport.

She let me put her Knickers on...

<------This picture is great! She was asleep and I ask to take her picture and she popped up and smiled! How awesome! Is this diaper and these Knickers the cutest thing you have ever seen? But other than cute, there are so many benefits with this combo. With the OS Diaper, it fits babies 7-35 lbs. The wool material in the Knicker helps the child regulate their body temperature so the Knickers can be worn as pants in both the summer and the winter. They are custom measured for your child but Emma's were just about 2 inches longer than her leg which is great so she has some time to get to wear them. Care is easy. Vilate will send you some information but wash and dry the diaper 5 times before wearing. After that you can wash it with your other diapers. Allow to line dry. The Knickers can just be air dryed between wearings. They must be lanolized about once a month. All instructions will be included with your order. I really love my Nifty combo and feel it will last me well beyond potty training years. I love the fact the wool is absorbent and crystallizes the urine instead of soaking my sheets.
Bet you want one, huh?

20 Week Challenge!

I have accepted a new challenge...for the New Year...and yes, I know it is February! It is called "The Love Challenge" and it came from a fellow blogger, Julia (I just love her blog). The way it goes is each week she will post a challenge to do with your partner...don't worry its PG (I think). The challenge will go for 20 weeks and in the end, I hope that it improves our relationship. With 3 kids, full time jobs and a house to manage, alone time is few and far between. But this is important to me and being held accountable makes it even better. Wanna join? Jump over to Sweet as Punkin Pie and accept the challenge. What do you have to lose?

SmartKnit KIDS Seamless Socks Review and Giveaway

I can't think of many kids that enjoy wearing socks.

2 out of 3 of my children HATE socks.

The other would wear trash bags if that was what I layed out for him.

I also work with children diagnosed on the Autism Spectrum. One of the main issues that these children deal with is a heightened sensory system.

One main complaint that I find equally between home and work is that socks are uncomfortable. My littlest one will just rip them off as soon as I put them on. If I get shoes on her, she will sit and cry ouch over and over. My oldest tells me how uncomfortable socks are and that they hurt her feet. At work, I notice the kids I work with often were sandals or shoes with no socks.

I recently was able to review 6 pairs of SmartKnit Kids. I received 2 pairs for each child. There was a mix of ankle, crew and Knee High. I am so thankful for SmartKnit Kids and their Seamless Socks! These socks have improved so many aspects of my families morning.

For starters, I encourage my youngest to put on her own clothes. These socks have no seam or heal so regardless of how she puts the sock on, it is right! My oldest no longer complains that the seams hurt the tops of her toes. My oldest 2 are 7 and 9. the 9yo wears a 4 and the 7 yo wears a 5 (i know, huge feet!) but because there is no heal, they can swap socks and no one will ever know.

I also love that there is a halo in the top of the sock that helps the sock fit comfortably and won't slide down the leg. The high tech fibers in the sock help keep feet dry and the antimicrobial benefits keep feet smelling like roses! And guess what mom and dad...they have your size too.

Bet you want some huh?

Head on over to SmartKnit Kids and purchase your own pair.

Bet you would rather win some huh?

The wonderful people at SmartKnit Kids is giving one of my lucky readers 3 pairs of socks in the color and size of choice.

Aden and Anais Review and Giveaway

Today, I was contacted and asked to participate in a topic that hits really close to home, SIDS. In March 2002, my baby Kaleb got his angel wings at only 4 months old. After 6 long, horrible months, cause of death was ruled Sudden Infant Death Syndrome.

8 years ago, I had only heard of SIDS a few times. I had no idea what it was about, much less how to prevent it. I have spent years educating myself about SIDS and how I could have made a difference. I have had 2 more children since then. Even though I have spent many nights watching them breath, I felt better knowing what changes to make that will reduce the chances of another SIDS death. One easy change is using a sleep sack or sleeping bag.

Many things could effect the situation but overheating is the leading cause. Please read the attached press release from yesterday.

New York, NY—February 4, 2010 – With the coldest of the winter months now upon us, parents and caregivers are more likely to crank the heating and reach for plush, thick blankets to keep their babies warm. Infants who are overdressed or covered in heavy blankets or many blankets are at higher risk for SIDS. It is very important for babies to be dressed lightly and comfortably to avoid overheating. The CJ Foundation recommends the use of wearable blankets and sleep-sacks in place of blankets to keep infants warm while sleeping.
aden + anais®, creator of the original muslin swaddling blanket and unique muslin cotton sleeping bags, is proudly sponsoring the CJ Foundation for SIDS and their continuing efforts to educate parents about the importance of not over-bundling and over-heating their infants. Over 2,000 babies in the United States still die of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS) each year, and overheating is a leading risk factor.
In an effort to support the CJ Foundation for SIDS’ mission, aden + anais® began sponsoring the foundation in October 2009 during SIDS Awareness Month. Each aden + anais® product is made of 100% breathable muslin cotton, which allows baby’s body temperature to adjust naturally, reducing the risk of overheating.
The CJ Foundation recently launched its Sleep in Safety, Grow in Style (SSGS) campaign to help educate parents about the importance of designing safe sleeping environments for babies. aden + anais® is working to help the CJ Foundation inform parents of the many ways they can keep their baby safe. While over-heating is one risk-factor for SIDS, SSGS and aden + anais® seek to educate parents about this and the other risk-reducing, precautionary practices:
Consider the use of fans to increases ventilation
Room temperature should be comfortable for a lightly-clothed adult, approximately 61-67 degree Fahrenheit
Cribs should be totally free of all loose blankets, stuffed animals and crib bumpers
Lay baby to sleep in an improved crib, on a firm mattress; do not let the baby sleep on soft things, like a couch, pillow, sheepskin, foam pad or waterbed
No smoking when pregnant or near baby
If possible, breastfeed baby
Offer a pacifier at bedtime
Co-sleeping should be in the same room but not the same bed or other sleep surface as parents

For more information on aden + anais’® sponsorship of the CJ Foundation, please contact Kristina Junger-Godfrey at Kristina@kjunger.com or 949.720.7062.
