Good Night, Sleep Tight Review and Giveaway

As most of my readers know, I don't post much about my personal life. However, I have a HUGE problem that I'm sure lots of people in the world share...A child that does not sleep all night.

Just this week, I was give the opportunity to review Kim West's popular title "Good Night, Sleep Tight." I was very excited to get a fresh opinion on the struggle that I have had for 18 months now. My Emma has only slept 6 consecutive hours a few (and I mean few) times in her little life. I love her but would give an arm for a full, uninterrupted nights sleep.

So here is the plan: Each week I will read a certain amount of the book, implement the ideas in my home, and post the results on my blog. Each week, I will add more and would encourage discussion of your own frustrations, struggles and successes. Together, we will face these issues and hopefully one night we will sleep. Yay!

At the end of the book, I will post a giveaway of your own copy of "Good Night, Sleep Tight" and anyone that participated in the discussion will receive extra entries but the amount of extras will depend on your amount of discussion. Also, if you purchase your own copy before the giveaway goes up, you will receive 10 extra entries into ANY of my giveaways.

In the meantime I will post a few interesting articles on sleep, such as this one...

Good Night Sleep Tight: Tips For Sleeping Well Every Night
By Kim West, LCSW-C,
Author of The Sleep Lady®'s Good Night, Sleep Tight: Gentle Proven Solutions to Help Your Child Sleep Well and Wake Up Happy
Did you know that getting 7-8 hours of sleep at night can help you live longer, be thinner, think clearer and look younger? Despite these incredible benefits more then half of U.S. adults get less then 7-8 hours of sleep at night!

If you are one of the 75% of adults who report having a sleep problem, consider some of these helpful sleep tips to start to get the sleep you need and your body craves:
Go to bed and wake up at around the same time (and while you have young children you might want to set your bedtime earlier than usual). Even on weekends, try not to modify it by more than an hour. Routines "condition" us for sleep, psychologically and physiologically, and the conditioned response then makes it easier to fall asleep and stay asleep.

Give yourself plenty of time to wind down, letting your body and mind become more relaxed and ready for sleep. Listen to quiet music, take a bath, or read a book. Some people find that light stretches, meditation, creative visualization, or progressive relaxation helps.

If you need to catch up, rather than tinker too much with your nightly sleep schedule, take naps. But either take a short twenty- to thirty-minute nap or take a longer ninety- to hundred-minute nap so you don't wake up during a non-REM sleep cycle and feel groggy. Before I learned that, I used to set the alarm for one hour and wake up feeling lethargic and lousy, like I needed a major infusion of caffeine.

Make sure your bed and your bedroom are sleep friendly. Your room should be quiet, dark, and secure, and your mattress, pillows, and sheets should be comfortable. Sort out any temperature-control issues with your partner or spouse!

Exercise at least twenty to thirty minutes three times a week, but try to do it in the morning or during the day, not in the evening. If possible, leave at least three to four hours between strenuous exercise and sleep, and you certainly don't want to work out right before you go to bed.

Try to get some natural light in the afternoon. Go for a walk or sit in a sunny room, and try to get out of the house or at least briefly escape your artificially lit office cubicle.

Eat dinner at least three hours before going to bed.

Reduce your caffeine consumption (two cups maximum), and don't have any caffeine for at least six to eight hours before bedtime because it stays in your bloodstream. Caffeine doesn't just mean coffee -- it means tea, many sodas, chocolate, and some over-the-counter cold and headache remedies. We become more sensitive to caffeine as we approach our forties.

Nicotine is a stimulant, so if you haven't stopped smoking, poor sleep is yet another incentive.

Watch your alcohol consumption. Alcohol may help you fall asleep, but more than three to five glasses, even less for some individuals, fragment our sleep. We wake up more often at night and earlier in the morning.

Orglamix Review and Giveaway

There was a point in my life when I used makeup everyday and wouldn't be caught dead without it on. Life gets in the way and as a mom, just don't have as much time as I did before. Makeup is very time consuming and requires a commitment of reapplying lipstick all day long. I just didn't have the time or energy for that anymore.

When I had the chance to review Orglamix, I was excited but at the same time, I didn't hold out hopes for any different results than any other makeup. Boy, I was wrong!! First of all, Cheri allowed me to choose any color collection. The color collection consists of 3 colors that are made for the others! They blend perfectly. I chose Creme de Menthe and received Eucalyptus, Spark and Wisteria.

Sorry my camera is lousy!

The makeup is beautiful. I can were just a small amount for a shimmer of color or I can wet the powder and get a BOLD look. The colors can be mixed to make a totally different color. They can also been worn together or separate for different options everyday.

In addition to the eyeshadow, Orglamix also offers an eye primer, foundations, cheek colors and wonderful brushes. HEADS UP...Cheri sprayed a wonderful scent in my bag when she sent my eye color, and it is TO DIE FOR! It is coming out at the end of the month and I will have some of that.

All the makeup comes with a money back guarantee...no questions asked. How great is that!?!

Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms Cookbook Review and Giveaway

As I'm sure all moms out there can say, time is scarce. After working all day, I hate the thought of coming home and cooking. And I love my husband but he really isn't creative in his cooking skills. I found myself resorting to take out or drive thru several times a week. I know that this not the healthy option but sometimes I just didn't have the energy to cook.

When I was offered the opertunity to review Jane Doiron's Make Ahead Meals for Busy Moms Cookbook, I was very excited. I had read many good things about the ease and creativeness of her cookbook. I contacted 2 of my friends and asked if they would like to meet on Sundays (my only day off) and cook the week aheads meals to freeze.

Since receiving the book, I have cooked all but 4 receipes and to say I'm impressed is an understatement. Not only are they easy to prepare, freeze and cook but they are creative, tasty, kid-friendly and healthy. I can substitute certain spices or eliminate other things if it is not popular in my house.

The kids favorite meal is the Mac and Cheese and Honey Mustard Chicken Tenders. My favorite meal was the Chicken Enchiladas. The Brushetta was fabulous too and I will be making it again for the Superbowl party!

Skin MD Shielding Lotion Review and Giveaway

Being that I have suffered from eczema for many years, I am always looking for a good moisturizing lotion that doesn't burn my skin. I have tried anything and everything but they are all about the same in the end.

I was very excited to be contacted to review Skin MD's new Shielding lotion. However, I didn't hold high hopes for it to work any better than the others I have used in the past.

From the website I found tons of information:
A shielding lotion is unlike any other conventional, artificial moisturizers
because it works with the skin to naturally moisturize and heal. Most
conventional, artificial moisturizers only add moisture to the surface of
the skin, but do little to repair the skin's natural barrier against
moisture robbing irritants. Continued use of artificial moisturizers can
cause the skin to actually begin producing less of its own natural oils,
thinking that the skin has enough moisture. This can cause skin to form a
dependence on the moisturizer for hydration. Skin MD Natural breaks the dry skin cycle by working to help restore skin's natural protective abilities by bonding to the outer layer of skin, strengthening skins natural barrier against toxins and irritants that can dry the skin, while locking in the skin's natural oils.

Also, the lotion is food grade and made in the USA. But, I still was not convinced. I had to try it for myself. Of course when I received the lotion I was not having any skin issues (figures). The day I received the lotion I noticed my son's hands were very dry. I told him to put some lotion on them but of course he didn't listen...KIDS! So, the next day, his hands looked like this:

They were bleeding and he was crying that they hurt so bad. Sorry for his pain but what a great chance to try out my new lotion!!

This was day 2! What a difference.

Day 3...Even Better

And day 4. How wonderful. We went from cracked and bleeding to almost completely healed in just a few applications. The best part is that it never stung his hand. The lotion feels like silk when you rub it on and leaves no greasy feeling behind.

Bet you want some, huh?

Buy It:

You can head over to Skin MD and purchase your own bottle of Skin MD lotion that retails for about $18.00

Bet you'd rather win some, huh?

Baby's First Phone Call Review and Giveaway

The birth of your child is a wonderful, breathtaking experience. It is one that you want to share with everyone in your life...But not while you are in labor. With my last child, we only called the sitter to come sit my older two children until after my Emma arrived. It was so peaceful not to hear the phone ringing and people coming in and out of my room. However, after she was born, I had a ton of calls to make. I had to tell the same details over and over. Who wants to do that when they have a brand new miracle to enjoy?

I wish I would have known about Baby's First Phone Call then. BFPC is an awesome service that makes all the calls for you!

How it works: You set up the account with all the numbers of friends and family that you would like to contact when your bundle of joy arrives. Then, after the birth, you make one call and make a recored message. This message could include any details such as time of birth and weight but can also let your family and friends know if you are receiving visitors or not.

If your caller picks up the phone, they will here your happy message. If they dont pick up, the message will be left on the voicemail. In either case, your friends and family have the option of sending you a voice message that you can listen to whenever you choose.

WHAT A GREAT SERVICE!

Black Diamond WOW! Wood Floor Cleaning System

Just this October, I moved from a small country house with wall to wall carpeting to a much larger, completely renovated home on the outskirts of the city. This house is all hardwood and boy were they beautiful...were! We made the "rule" take off your shoes. HA! That lasted only a short while. I told myself I would mop them everyday HAHA!

Having 3 children under 9 and 2 cats, life happens. One of the last things I think of on a day to day basis is my floors. They get swept and mopped 2 times a week if I'm lucky. Cleaning floors is not very fun and they never look as good as they did to start with. I have used regular mopping solutions, hot water and vinegar, and even the wet mop with disposable pads. Nothing really worked. They always looked scuffed after a hour or two.

When I was offered the chance to review WOW! Wood Floor Cleaning System, I was very excited. The mopping system has so many wonderful qualities. It is very easy to assemble. Just a few snaps and it was together. The microfiber pads(you get 2) are so soft and they Velcro right on to the bottom. When they get dirty, pull it off, wash it, and your ready for the next time. When you are ready to mop, spray the floor cleaner on a small area, mop until dry and...Beautiful! No harsh chemicals or strong smells. The ingredients are water based and non-toxic, so you don’t have to worry about having them around small children or pets. The best of all? The floor is dry right away.

I couldn't wait for it to get here and when it arrived this morning, you would have thought it was Christmas in my house. I immediately swept all my floors. Just to test out this products effectiveness, I decided to use my old mop and solution first and then mop with WOW! WOW was I surprised. The microfiber pad was disgustingly dirty when I finished all the floors. No wonder the floor never looked good...The mop didn't do a good job! I also understand that there is product build-up and as I continue to use it, the floors will look even better. But, there were no streaks and the microfiber cloth grabbed all the loose dirt that I missed when I swept. I tossed the cloth in the washer and that was it. The mop was also very easy to push and maneuvered under furniture with ease.I am sold.

Blush Undershirt Review and Giveaway

How many of you have taken your shirt from the closet, put it on and swear your husband shrunk it? I know I have. I even banned him from laundry duties but eventually I had to come to terms with the fact I had put on a few pounds! Nothing of my previous wardrobe fit anymore...until I found Blush undershirts. Blush was so kind as to send me the purple undershirt. I love it!

This company invented an revolutionary product to go under your shirt, making it longer. Also, for the women who like the layered look(I do), it does the layers without the bulk and temperature of two shirts.

"We are just two girls, both looking for the same product until we decided one day to design it. With one of us having a long torso and the other being pregnant, we both had the same problem of our shirts not fitting."

Another plus...the dreaded butt! Have you ever bent over and your shirt rides up and your pant ride down...exposing your butt? How embarrassing! When you add the Blush undershirt, problem solved. You can mix one shirt with a Blush of one color to make one outfit and then a Blush of another color for a completely different outfit.

I love the fact that when you are pregnant and begin to outgrow your maternity shirts, just add a Blush undershirt, and you have a cute new look. I wish I would have known about this company when I was pregnant. I had to buy several new, bigger shirts at the end of my pregnancy.

The Blush undershirts are not made with cotton, so they shouldn't shrink! They come in many awesome colors and patterns. They are made in size small-20+.

Bet you want one, huh?

Buy It:

You can head over to Blush and purchase your own undershirt.

Bet you'd rather win one, huh?

Alight Review and Giveaway~3 Winners!

I used to love to shop. That was long ago, before I had 3 children. Lets just say, I've stretched a bit and clothes are not as easy to find. What I really don't like is the fact designers feel that I have to look frumpy and old since I'm plus size. That is until now. Introducing Alight.com

Alight sent me a white, short sleeve, cute dress top. I will be able to wear this shirt anywhere. It will be appropriate for work as well as hanging out with friends.

I found so many wonderful looks on the site. Really, everything that I ever would need for work and causal dress could be found on this site. The best part...is the price. Alight is comparable to the competition plus-size clothing stores.

Alight.com carries clothes sized 14-30 and offers a wide assortment of clothing from jeans to tops to dresses to skirts with almost 100 brands and over 900 styles Alight is defiantly closing the gap in the plus-size clothing deficit.

Bet you want one, huh?

Buy it: Head over to Alight and purchase your favorite outfits.

Natures Paradise Review and Giveaway

There is really nothing more important in my book than taking care of my children. In the winter, their skin is just as important as any other part of their body. I can't imagine how miserable it is to have chapped lips or skin when you are a toddler. I have found a trillion different products on the market that promise all kinds of results. Have you ever put some of that stuff on your skin? Many of these products burn my skin so why would I put these on my baby?

This is why I am always excited to use anything organic...food, cleaning products and baby items alike. When I had the chance to review Natures Paradise Baby Organics, I was ecstatic! My set included Lotion, Shampoo/Body Wash, Massage Oil, Baby Powder, and Diaper Cream. I give these products rave reviews. I used all the bath products every night for a week. My Emmy loves the massages that she gets right before bed. The products are all coconut scented and enriched Shea butter. However, if you prefer unscented, you can get that too.

I didn't think I was going to have a chance to use the diaper rash cream but this morning when Emmy woke up, she had a rash. Bittersweet huh? I put it on the first 2 changes. After her nap, the rash was gone! How awesome. Another plus to this cream is that is isn't cakey like some commercial creams. It rubs in easy so it is less painful for the tushy.

Bet you want some, huh?
