Love Challenge #3

Last week for me was good. I left notes in obvious places like the dashboard but also in not so obvious places such as a shirt pocket or inside his pillow. Each time, it made him smile. He isn't much of a talker but I knew by the smile that he was happy and it improved his day a bit.

Week 4: On a Positive Note...Right now (yes, right now, or you'll forget to do it later), write down a list of positive things about your spouse. Pick one of those things and compliment him on or thank him for that positive attribute that he possesses. Try to pick a different one each day and compliment him all 7 days this week!

Good Luck!

  2. I'm going to try to answer all of your questions :-D

The diaper I gave away was the Deluxe Flannel AIO from Diaperkit.com. The pocket diaper is one of my own creations. I'm still not that good at making the pocket so it might be awhile til I can give a tutorial because I want to perfect it and simplify it.

As for starting out sewing a diaper, I HIGHLY recommend a diaperkit. They're so simple and you don't have to pick any fabrics out yourself. Also, the fabrics aren't stretchy so they're easy to work with if you're a new seamstress. In addition, PUL can be tricky to work with because it sticks to the machine's foot as it's sewn, and the diaperkit instructions are done in such a way that this won't happen.

I made a tutorial for that on my blog. It's under a tab at the top of the blog that says something like "Make your own tutorials" I just have a list of links to my tutorials.

As far as making my own diapers, a very easy material to start working with is old Tshirts. Currently, I'm making a lot of fitteds using nothing but old Tshirts--Tshirts are knit, so they stretch and can be difficult to get the hang of, but since fitteds go under a cover, and Tshirts aren't something you have to buy, it won't hurt you to mess up a bit. Just make sure you get a ball point needle for your machine or it will make holes.

As far as other diaper sewing fabrics go, the possibilities seem endless to me. There is a sidebar with a list of places I buy fabric from (my favorites are Celtic Cloth, Diapercuts, and Kids in the Garden). Some of these sites had lists of what each fabric is and what it's good for and I read through that extensively before buying anything. Also, I looked through lots of diapers that I already use and checked out the materials that are in them. Based on that, the materials I'm currently using are
PUL for the outer layer (this won't be found in your local fabric store. You gotta buy it online.
Microsuede for the inner (it wicks away moisture and keeps my daughter's skin dry)
Hemp fleece for the inner absorbent layer
And Microfiber for the inner absorbent layer. You can buy microfiber at the Dollar Tree in teh cleaning aisle or in your local Walmart in the automotive section with the car washing supplies. You can also find it online.

    Does this help?

    I hope so.

I'll be getting up a Tshirt fitted tutorial hopefully within the week.
